Myeloma Screening Panel
Myeloma Screening Panel
Advanced blood testing to detect early signs of myeloma and related conditions
This comprehensive screening is designed to assess key markers associated with multiple myeloma, plasma cell disorders, and monoclonal gammopathy. It evaluates immune system activity, inflammation, blood proteins, and kidney function to provide a clear picture of your internal health.
🔍 What’s Included in the Myeloma Screen?
Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR)
Measures the rate at which red blood cells settle in a test tube — a general indicator of inflammation in the body. Often raised in chronic conditions like myeloma.
Biochemistry Profile
Evaluates kidney function, calcium, albumin, total protein, and other essential blood chemistry markers that are commonly affected by plasma cell disorders.
Protein Electrophoresis
Separates blood proteins to detect abnormal monoclonal (M) proteins, which are often present in myeloma and related diseases.
Serum Immunoglobulins (IgA, IgG, IgM)
Measures levels of your body’s major antibodies. Abnormalities may signal an overproduction or deficiency of specific immunoglobulin types — often seen in blood cancers.
Serum Free Light Chains (Kappa & Lambda)
Highly sensitive for detecting light chain myeloma. This test measures free immunoglobulin light chains that may not show on standard protein electrophoresis.
🍽️ Fasting Instructions – Important
Please fast for 8 to 12 hours before your appointment.
Allowed: Still water only
Avoid: All food, drinks (including tea/coffee), and supplements Fasting ensures accurate measurements, particularly for your biochemistry profile.
🏥 What to Expect During Your Assessment

Your report will highlight any abnormal results and explain what they may mean. If further investigation is needed, you will be advised to follow up with your GP or a specialist (e.g. haematologist).
This screening helps detect the presence of markers associated with myeloma, but a confirmed diagnosis requires further tests such as imaging or bone marrow biopsy. If concerning signs are found, we’ll guide you on the next steps.
